Re: P2 update
Thank you. Very interesting. Since the weight of opinion currently appears to be that Hornby won't produce a Bugatti nosed version anytime soon, perhaps I should obtain one of the Railroad locomotives for future conversion, once all you clever people have lead the way!
It's the complex shape of the steam pipes that worries me most!

Re: P2 update
Hi Will,
Do you plan to do anything to increase the depth of the upright plate above the front buffer beam proper, or just turn a blind eye to the marginal difference compared to 2001?
Simon,
Have you published your review(s) of the Hornby model anywhere on the web yet? I had a quick look last night but found nothing.

Hmmmm, I hadn't noticed that!Atlantic 3279 wrote:Hi Will,

I'll compare drawings with the model tonight & have a think, though I'm inclined to change it now you've pointed it out.
The more I look at this darn loco, the more I see that almost everything needs changing in some way or other from what I purchased.
Oh well - in for a penny, in for a pound!!

Re: P2 update
Not as yet Graeme - I am holding fire as I am informed my top of the range model is winging its way to me today. I felt it prudent to hold off and do it for both models. It is going to be a video and a written review on blog and YouTube.
I am fairly convinced that Hornby had no intention of developing a bugatti nosed version with this specific model - I think it more likely they would have used their R&D and standard parts, e.g. driving wheels and tender frames, to tool up an all new streamlined P2. But which one? I think only 2003/4/5 would seriously be considered, and even then there are minor differences between all three of these, the most similar of the P2s (bar 2005's single chimney of course).

Good morning all
The P2's were all different, it makes interesting modelling. The old Kay's kit that I built many years ago, could only represent two (2003+2004), without some work.

Re: P2 update
Wow I've just taken delivery of a detailed version of the Hornby P2 from Monk Bar, been on order for a long time....well worth the wait, it runs very sweetly.
A fine model and well worth the wait.

Re: P2 update
Has anyone had an email from Hattons about the Higher detail P2? I haven't yet.

Re: P2 update
I spoke to Hattons today regarding the Heljan O2s, the details of which they seem to have got mixed up in their Autumn brochure.
Whilst on the phone I asked about the super-detailed P2 and they are still saying the end of this month I'm afraid.
I wonder if this means I will receive Book Law first as this is scheduled for 22 September? Mind you the D16/3 still says 5 September and there's no sign of that!

Re: P2 update
I was very surprised to get a phone call this afternoon saying my P2 was in stock, I did ask if it was a mistake and was it a super detail version, too which the answer was yes. I was not expecting it till end of Sept........it seems to pay to support a local shop and not a box shifter.

Re: P2 update
I cannot recall such excitement and anticipation over a model before! Would anyone agree?
As it's very local for me, I intend to go to the Ricoh Stadium over the weekend for the RMWeb Live event - if there are any P2s there I will have to keep my hands firmly in my pockets! Waiting for R3207 is proving very trying!

Re: P2 update
Maybe models of the high profile famous 'one offs' are the way forward for Hornby? I wouldn't bet against the Turbomotive next.2002EarlMarischal wrote:I cannot recall such excitement and anticipation over a model before! Would anyone agree?

If, one offs are the way to go,for Hornby, what about two offs, namely the two P1's, there would be 'Great' interest in these two orphans...............

But how much would the P1 with 100 wagon box set cost?
