There are some pictures on RMWeb. I wasn't hugely impressed.

Re: Great British Locomotives Magazine
Handy "un-cut" buffer beam for 2750's K3. Too late of course, when that loco is already at the lining out stage.
Buffer beam quite possibly wrong in GN style when modelled in combination with the final GS cab....

My Smiths had five on display-or rather did, down to 3 now. Managed to find two without distorted front running plate, the wheels are awful, but the body is rescuable. But what else can we expect at the price they are ? Lets hope the J39 has a flare top tender.

Hmmm, I may be able to make something of it- shall have to sort out my copy of O S Nock's 'Great Northern Railway' and play 'spot the difference' between a photo of a GNR example and the model.

K3 Not one of the best - loco chassis is poor even for display. A major rework might make the basis for that proposed 2-6-4-4!

Re: Great British Locomotives Magazine
Collected my K3 this morning picking the best of a bad lot. When I say "lot", I mean 3.
All had a glaring cap between firebox and cab, and 2 had upturned running plate at the smokebox end.
Tinkering this evening, I made an infill for the aforementioned gap, sanded off the front coupling socket, amended the loco drawbar by shortening and drilling a new hole, and added thin washers to increase the amount of tender wheel visible under the frames, thus levelling off loco and tender.
Oh and I also took the corners off the front buffer-beam creating the curve with a needle file.
Of course you can't escape the horrid wheels and valvegear, but the above changes have improved the model which could be hidden away in a siding, shed etc.

Re: Great British Locomotives Magazine
Good morning all
The 2-6-4-4 would be an interesting neverwassa, StJ.
The boiler was pitched slightly higher (3" or 1mm in 00).
The coupled wheelbase was equal, but 2mm longer (in 00) than the A3 wheelbase.
The footplate must be slightly higher to allow for the larger wheels.
The tender looks like a GS4200gal upperworks, on a new chassis.
The boiler mountings must be slightly smaller, except for the missing dome, to allow for the higher boiler.
I'm almost tempted to buy one.
The above info taken from FAS Brown's biography.

Strange how you can read things over and still miss typos!

Re: Great British Locomotives Magazine
I wonder how much longer it will last - it would seem that the standard of models has gradually deteriorated from Mallard which was quite acceptable to something the like of you used to buy in those cheapo toy bazaars at the seaside which were poor copies of toys made in the UK! I'll give my order another couple of issues and then seriously review things!
