Good morning all
There's a vacuum for LNER GS tenders with stepped out coping. They are around, but AFAIK not in the RTR form.

SEF K3 tenders (not sure about J39/2) have additional parts for the stepped out coping version.
Dave Alexander produces a 4200g tender with stepped out coping.
The tender with the Nucast O2/3 had stepped out coping.

I've never seen a model of the 3500g tender with stepped out coping as fitted to the early J39/1.

Jamieson J39 was supplied with a 3,500 gal tender with coping. I believe Dave Bradwell's 3,500 gal tender kit includes the option.

G'day all
Thanks Pebbles, I'll keep that in mind, if I ever want to build another J39.
We are wandering off the subject, so I'll let the GBL people have the floor to discuss the magazine/model.

If people are struggling to find issues in newsagents you can buy them from the publishers website but at the increased price of 20 euros. They seem to come out a few weeks after the original issues without having to subscribe and are available up to the 7th issue so far. weather the models are worth 20euros is another thing entirely.

Theres a thread about this series on RMWEB. It appears that city of truro is out (based on the Bachmann model) but with less issues being shipped than previous ones. My local ASDA seems to be about two weeks behind the rest of the country and i haven't seen the black five yet let alone the city

A number of exceedingly naïve questions are being asked about K3s and K4s on that RMweb thread too. In at least one case the answer is perfectly obvious on simply looking at the current page of the thread, with eyes OPEN and brain switched on.
Most subjects, models and techniques covered in this thread are now listed in various categories on page1

Dec. 2018: Almost all images that disappeared from my own thread following loss of free remote hosting are now restored.

Hi

My local newsagent has City of Truro, issue 9. Pity they missed issue no 8, the Black Fives

As stated before, in the interests of keeping the supply lines open, I collected my copy of issue 9 this morning. It came into stock one day late.

There were 2 others on the main magazine shelf at the Hinckley Asda.

Being GWR, it is of no interest to me, but it doesn't seem a bad model overall, quite good value for money.

I have asked Asda to put 2 x issue 10 on one side when they come in.

Whilst out in Lincoln today with swmbo I made a diversion into WHSmiths to see if they where still stocking, and to my surprise they had a counter full of them, not my cup of tea this issue and what I could see it was a decent static model but would hate to attempt to convert to a running model as the side gear is moulded on the main body on the outside frames. The finish looked crisp on the one I inspected

Will look at the K3 but having just brought a Bachmann one this week and cant see a need for the tender in any current projects on my bench, shame it wasnt a stepped tender

I was quite amused that people cant tell the difference between a K3 & 4 especially with our friend google available. having said that I don't know the difference between a hall and modified hall!

Hi

The 'standard' Hall does not have the loco frames extended forward of the cylinders, the 'modified' one does as can be seen on the footplate under the smokebox door. The steampipes are slightly longer on the modified engines. The bogie on the 'modified', front view, shows as a plate whereas on the original engines you can see 'the works' (now you know the extent of my technical knowledge).

Hope this has brought light into your darkness !!! You'll feel better now you know this!!!

Regards
