Sounds like a Railroad chassis with a "normal" Tender or vice versa. Graeme (I think ) has mentioned it before.I have had it before as well ,swopping Tender wires around cured it on mine. Or just kill the Tender connection they run fine without Tender pick ups.

Not sure Mick. The loco was brand new Kingfisher from a reliable source and was new in the box predating the rail road range. It was tried with three separate LNER tenders....and it shorted every time.

Tony killed the tender connection.....simplest method worked!

Aha - I had a recent experience where a loco shorted out when connected to the tender and both were top range as far as I know - the pickups on the loco were wired incorrectly to the loco to tender drawbar - it ran fine without the tender. I resoldered the connections to the drawbar (a fiddly job at the best of times) and its OK! If you have the resources it's always worth trying the loco with another tender before doing anything.

Some K3 action on Little Bytham. New chassis courtesy of Mr Wright (and a little work from myself).
Darlington cab and will become 17 of York Shed.

I think I'd replace that ejector pipe with some wire as well, Tom. Have you checked whether 17 was LHD or RHD? Some were swapped and then swapped back (ask me how I know...). I think the buffers may also need to be Spencer-Moulton (i don't have my Yeadon with me at the office) but if that is the case Dave Franks has just started doing them and I think they're mentioned on Graeme's thread. There are some very nice KM sprung ones available but you don't often need them on the front of a tender loco.

17 was converted to left hand drive in 1935, I have a photo of her in RCTS 6A in 1937 which confirms this. What type buffers does the bachmann K3 already have? Wouldn't mind some footsteps too if anyone knows who makes them.

Will have a think about the ejector pipe. The cab now has all it's hand rails fitted and I will be fitting the balance weights later.

The Bachmann buffers are LNER GS - the Spencer Moulton ones are a very different shape. This is the one I did for Ormesby from the same batch, which we mentioned back up thread:

I'll have a check later today.
Need to work out how I'm going to attach the roof....the way I see it I can only attach it once the body/cab is finally secured, so after the cabs been painted.

So today, while it's stormed like mad outside, I've been busy working away on something other than a Pacific, but still a vital member of the Thirsk fleet.
1398 is a standard Bachmann K3 which has been lined out by MickLNER (why Bachmann never bothered lining the LNER K3 out I really do not know).

She was shopped two months prior to the period I'm modelling (May-August 1938), so I wanted a working but clean loco which hopefully the photos reflect.

Sometimes, you see a photo of you work and something niggles. The tender sides needed a touch toning down I felt, so before breakfast the paints were out. I'm now far happier with the results.
Here we see 1398 doing what she was built for, working a Class B Goods (most likely between York and Newport).

That looks the business I think, I wish I had the skills to weather loco's like that, I'll have to keep practising. If you don't mind me asking, what is the van immediately behind the K3's tender.

Cheers

Thanks Paul
Regarding the van, you will have to ask jwealleans of this parish. I'm very fortunate to be buying prototypical stock from a friend, but my actual knowledge is rather poor at the moment.
