BR Coach Liveries

Hi All,

I have a quick question that I think will be relatively straight forward concerning BR liveries and when they were applied. Am I right in assuming that;

Chocolate Brown and Cream, Western Region, 1956-1962
Carmine and Cream, All Regions, 1949-1956
Maroon, London Midland/Eastern/Western Region(Post 1962), 1956-1965
Malachite Green, Southern Region, 1956-1965

Also did BR MK1 Pullmans ever wear the Green and Cream livery? I know that Opal on the NYMR is painted in this but was it ever an official livery for the Pullmans?

Regards

Karl

Karl describes the Southern Region "Green" as "Malachite Green" in his posting. "Malachite Green" was the light green used by the Southern Railway in its final years for its coaches and locomotives, except for the locomotives that were painted black.

The green used for Southern Region coaches was a pleasant medium green colour that was somewhat darker than "Malachite Green". I have heard this colour shade described as "Cranmore Green" because this is the colour used at Cranmore when painting coaches for preserved railways. There may be an adjective used in the paint business to specify this particular green colour. Perhaps somebody in that line of work can give us the official term for this particular colour, if there is one.

Those 'regional' colours were not universal. The Tyneside electrics wore a medium green 'identical' (?) to SR stock.

Oh so they are using that as the excuse now are they, in fact it is supposed to be Pullman livery, but someone down at carriage and wagon mixed the paint up wrong apparently!

How can you get Pullman Umber mixed up with what ever shade of green that is :?. I will assume then, from what you have said Ben, that this was never an official colour worn by Pullman Cars.

Percy: I understand the green livery used by BR on ex-LNER EMUs was the standard BR electric livery of the time. Considering most BR EMUs at that time were probably running on ex-SR lines, it makes sense.
