Jack the 'Baboon' signalman??

Post by Mickey »

Back in the 1880s in South Africa at a railway station called Uitenhage there worked a Baboon named Jack who was the railway stations signalman!. Jack not only operated the signalling equipment but also kept the station garden clean & tidy and collected the occasional passenger's ticket arriving at the station although it is not recoreded if Jack answered the telephone?.

The other person at the station a porter known as 'Jumper' said that Jack was a good worker but he made a lousy mug of tea!!.

I bet the railway company payed Jack peanuts for all the work that he did around the station?.

Yes, he wouldn't have 2 ape knees to rub together on pay day.

I knew it was one or the other.

The old adage comes to mind.
"Its not often you're right but you are wrong again" seems appropriate
