at the start of 2013 i've started to watch Downton Abbey and in the first episode of series one at the start was a Brighton Terrier then in series 2 they used the C Class loco but the thing that make it a pain to watch they are southern locos and Downton Abbey is set in North Yorkshire!

The geology and architecture are wrong too - or implausible. "Downton Abbey" looks to be made of Jurassic Oolite - not your first choice in the Vale of York! (the external building is dahn sarth in Hampshire, and the village iirc is in Oxfordshire)

The closest to NER is the charabanc which has occasional drive-on appearances.

Remember a Miss Marple when she went to catch a train at Marylebone. It was an HST. Unusual for Chiltern Lines. But, even more unusually, she then went into a side compartment and turned the steam heat on......

I don't know why everyone persists in watching television, especially as we all know that we get more authentic scenes on the radio.

Possibly true Bill but personally speaking i got rid of the telly back in 1998 (there was nothing on it!!) and in the meantime bought a dvd player and only watch Railways, Westerns & War films with some Sylvester Stallon (Rambo) Jean Claude Van Damme, Chuck Norris & Bruce Lee dvds thrown in all the time and surpisingly feel better for it!!.

Local news last night, article about Metro relaying. Announcer says these rails and sleepers were first laid in 1864, haven't they done well!

Downton Abbey series 4 has just returned and already the mucked up the trains again this time they used 925 Cheltenham and St Pancras International

I suppose the SR enthusiasts complain the the Terrier is LBSCR and the C class SECR.
Whilst I am never pleased with historial inaccuracies, I'm pleased that preserved locos are getting used in revenue earning ways.
I'm never likely to watch Downtown abbey, I do watch sport on TV. I also remember John Wayne's Horse Soldiers from it's cinema release in about 1959, which was a long hot summer and steam ruled the railways.

Metro rails laid in 1864-
I remember it well as I was the loco inspector getting the 51L train crews ready and rehearsed for working the royal train when the Queen did the opening ceremony. We arranged when the driver pulled into the central he would stop left shoulder to left shoulder with a 'gentleman' who would be standing as a marker on the platform. Just as we were pulling up someone called to this chappie and he turned and walked towards them !!! The red carpet and the de-training door were about halfy half so the Queen just did a daintily side step and all's well that ended well.............that introduced grey hair number 6,957.
Jim Brodie......Started at the bottom as a potential steam engine cleaner and worked my way down the ladder. I had hoped to progress to a platform edge white line painter but am right handed and there were only left handed platforms available.

Oh yes 'the Duke' yes i've got many of his films on dvds my favourite John Wayne films are probably-

1.Horse soldiers
2.Brannigan
3.The shootist
4.Rio Bravo
6.Sands of Iwo Jima.

I've been waiting for McQ to be released on dvd for several years now (John Wayne's anawer to Clint Eastwood's Dirty Harry character) made in 1974.

John Wayne made around 150 films in his lifetime.

Micky , I can here them now rattling throu' the BTH Supa Mk1's , with scratching from the Simplex and Kalee's mech's
