Some are very nice - I liked travelling on the London Midlands 'Desiros', Virgin and First Great Western aren't bad either. East Midlands is awful, East Coast isn't great but I presume it was the cheapest option as it was a Government take over following National Expresses failings. Oddly enough there's was a nice livery too, as was GNER's (which you still see)

Are they going to sell off a franchise between Edinburgh and London only? Or is it just ignorance of the fact that the franchise currently runs from Aberdeen to London? It would certainly have a significant impact on the seating capacity north of the Capital as Scotrail would struggle to replace the extra seats provided by the HST sets.

Why not future proof it and just sell off KX to Berwick?

What an excellent idea. Then you could change trains onto a fully nationalised and integrated rail network.

If your reading this Richard Branson it's just an idea mate?.
LOL! maybe they were thinking original A4 silver. I agree, it is an 'orrible livery on these new ones, though.

Mr Branson is now kicking himself and the DoT has had the last laugh. They have extended his WCML franchise for an extra two years and they will not give him the ECML because that will mean he has both North /South main lines which is one of the reasons he has failed in the past. No Pendalinos. Also East Coast has put £640 m back to the Treasury so now they want to franchise it off to try and make more money but will it work?. They seem to forget that we are in a recession so as usual the passenger will have to pay extra so some company can make a profit and pay the government a profit as well.

There is (or was) a canny little chippy at Berwick which I used while bashing Deltics. It would be great for the punters when changing into an SNPrail train at the border!

I wouldn't mind a return of GNER (loved the post 2004 livery on the 125 sets), but I'm sure most if not all of us would like to see the 225 sets wearing intercity branding again ;)

I'm intrigued to find out what preservation will do when the 43's and 91's are eventually retired.
