I agree with your sentiments 95% Micky, but I did see that series of programmes on the Underground some months back, and that was quite interesting and informative.
I did not realise just how much work had to be done every night in the few hours when the current is off, just to keep the trains running.
If the BR series can be done like the LT one, then it might be worth having a look at.

Yes that Underground one was a decent program. Trouble is with documentaries nowerdays its like roulette whether its going to be dumbdown rubbish or actually rather good.

Thanks for the alert on this, hq1.
That's odd Micky! I'm still using platform 10 and the footbridge quite often.

Granted Stevie that no.10 platform is on the suburban station BUT didn't the old footbridge that spanned from platform no.1 to platform no.8 (formerly no.10) get 'taken away' a year or two ago??.
I knew what you meant really Micky
, and you're right, but there's now a 10 month-old glass-sided one spanning the width of the main station in virtually the same place (good photo-taking location).
It's a continuation of the bridge (near the suburban station ticket gates) from the 'mezzanine'/gallery/1st floor
(delete according to preference) level in the new 'west' concourse and its 1st floor-level walkway (with ticket gates) through the west side offices, and it has escalators and passenger lifts down to the current No.8 and all platform islands, plus an additional fixed stairway down to platform 1 (for fire escape purposes including from the east side offices).
But it seems to be a part of the intended one-way passenger flow system as the escalators only go down, and there seems to be no public way to call the lifts to platform level to go up to the footbridge (though there is that fixed stairway from platform 1).

Yes but they've put the old clock back on 8/10 ! I thought that had gone with the bridge - but they've put it back ! That ol' clock that's seen the GN's, the LNER's, British Railways' and the since motley bands' best trains away for 160 years !!! Some things still live on, you see !

Hi All
As I understand it the footbridge is at Ropley, on the Mid-Hants (or Watercress ) line awaiting instalation.

Thanks, Postman, yes, I couldn't remember where it was but I knew it was saved. Must have a look when they get it put up.

Hi Bryan
That's my local line - so I hardly ever go there!!! You're many, many miles from it and you know more about it than I do. There's a moral there, somewhere??
