Oh dear! One of our favourite engines (when I was at OC) in serious trouble, not good.

The timing is not helpful either, as the ORR opines on the charter delay cap. This incident is going to put the "minor" operator sector under further scrutiny and, with the Stafford SPAD incident (April 2012) also being looked at seriously by the RAIB, we (the whole rail industry) could have done without this.

One things for certain, the Insurance Premiums for owners of older traction will be going up after this.

Will only put them under further scrutiny if it turns out it was the fault of the loco for the derailment and not Network Rail.

At least the MK1 dosen't look to be fire damaged. Good job it wasn't a class 37 then it WOULD have been a serious.

I have reliably been informed (by three independent industry sources) that the track is being looked at very, very closely. It would appear that the loco had been dragged, in a derailed state, for a distance and integrity of the fuel system was damaged in the process.

Of course, we shall have to wait for some official word for confirmation or otherwise.

From the looks of the loco and the amount of foam used, I wouldn't fancy the generators chances much. In the old days it would be off to Crewe for some serious work, if the bodyshell was o.k. but these days it will probably be cheaper to write it off and rebuild another stored one.

The good thing about this incident is that it wasn't a passenger train and nobody was injured.
