Ay up!
Bit off the wall, this one.
I remember seeing, many moons ago, a piccie of a Sikh Guard, complete with magnificent beard and turban. The turban had the BR cap badge on. He was used as a poster boy by BR, trying to get more people from ethnic minorities to work for them, it was a truly memorable image and was used in a local railway history book. Needless to say, I cannot now remember the book!
When I got to know him, much later, he had clipped his beard and adopted standard BR uniform headgear to escape racist comments. How sad is that?
Despite a goooooooogle search, I can't find a copy of this anywhere. Does anyone else remember this? And even better, do you have an electronic version of the pic that you could send me?

Good morning all
Back in the days when mail and freight both went by rail. The pubs next to the local station & sorting office were always full of postal workers and railwaymen. There was a Sikh postal worker called Snowy, people asked about his turban, and he explained that under post office rules his turban should be blue or grey. Somebody suggested that he should wear a green turban, but he said that was impossible as people would think he was Irish.

Ay up!
That's not the image I had in mind, and I couldn't access that site yesterday! The search continues...
And that ain't Leeds. By the time Blue & Grey stock predominated, the roof at Leeds was a warehouse!

Hi BB,
If you type in the address on the photo, it will lead you to more photos, one of which shows the same Sikh on a platform, with the caption, First Waterloo guard,
