A very sad loss. RIP. :(

I've never been to the Bluebell though I find their fleet of steam locomotives not only impressive but also showcasing great variety - I'd love to go there someday.

He was about on my very first visit to the Bluebell, now well over 30 years ago.

I didn't place him as a retired railwaymen at all, more like a very curteous ex judge or similar. He was polite and authoritive and I was impressed at what they were trying to do. I'm even more impressed now with East Grinstead only a few months away.

There are some in railway preservation who try to be "big men". He seems to have quietly got on with the job.

The Bluebell is unbelievable - the best preserved line i've visited, each station is beautifully presented and represents a certain era, even the uniform of the staff changes for each station/era (Victorian/Edwardian LBSCR, 1920s-30s Southern Railway and 1950's British Railways), the coaching stock is fantastic, especially the Metropolitan Railway rake and the earlier four wheelers, and yes the locomotives are diverse and fascinating too. I never had an interest in the Southern or it's predecessors until I visited, hoping to get back there more regularly. Highly reccomended. It really is a living tribute to this gentleman's hard work
