Class 08 Diesel in Holland?

Post by Rlangham »

In the background of this photograph, looks very much like a Class 08 'Gronk' or similar - any thoughts?

Yes you are right, They were built for Holland and are not BR examples. There was a preserved one at NRM Shildon.

Would like to see a few more photos of the loco but it doesn't seem to have outside frames nor the vents at the front where the radiator would be. Interesting website though with all those tanks etc.

There is a recently acquired example at the Ribble Steam Railway at Preston.
Look on p36 of the stocklist.

First of all this picture was not taken in Holland but Belgium (I took it)

It was during the open day at "het fortje van Kapellen" (the little fort of Kapellen)

The lokomotive you see (only partly) was in the past used to transport material
for the Belgian army from their base in Brasschaat to Kapellen where it connected with
the main railway line.

Surfing the net I found some better pictures of this train (I think it's the same I'm no railway specialist)

Going by the comment in the info panel on the Ribble Rly stocklist.
The loco is not an 08 or an 11 but in a class of its own.
