Those members that are commuters along the south end of the ECML between Alexandra Palace and Finsbury Park must have noticed the up grade work on the up goods and up carriage, this has been going on since the start of the year. i am lucky enough to be able to get photos of this . I have been able to weekly take photos of the different work sites and i am building a photo album to show this work so that the changes are recorded. The Hornsey control cabin will be demolished in the early hours of Sunday 15th July 2012, i have taken some photos of the site before this happens. And i hope that i can record its final hours when being pulled down. If not may be a photo of the rubble. the attached photos of the cabin one week before its demise.

About time they done up the old goods line, and putting the island platform back at Wood Green (Ally Pally) they really shot themselves in the foot when they took it out.

Micky, I've never drank tea, so I did'nt go over to the mess rooms at BG, Hornsey, etc, but I know that some of the female cleaners used to rib the young firemen rotten..................there was always plenty of 1st class sleepers in the yard

I used to work trains out of there 1983-89 and I remember the guy who worked in the box had an incomprehensible Jamaican accent and you would often end up with the wrong train! It is shocking to see how the sidings are covered in grass now - have NR no shame?

Hi, Micky, When I used to tell the driver I did'nt drink tea or coffee (at the time) there was a few pointed remarks and with a huff went down to get there own can out of there locker, some of which had probably been there since they became drivers (lots of dust) but after a while I stopped getting thrown off the footplate,

Even today I don't drink tea, and I must have been in my 30's before I started to drink coffee

As I said earlier I worked trains out of here 1983-89 and I think they started to fall into disuse about 1991 after the ECML electrification rendered ordinary loco hauled stock more or less redundant.

Update from the window of a 313 from this morning.

The track in the sidings is about 2/3 lifted now, and had started last week as far as I can recall. There are several piles (stacks) of sleepers around the yard.

As regards the signal cabin, it's still intact, although I get the impression it may be being stripped out inside.

Does anyone know why the rather odd boarding alongside the new (or being restored ) platform at Alexandra Palace?

Has anyone seen what the track arrangement will be at Alexandra Palace when the Up Goods will start taking the commuter services from the loop?

Yes, funny that, because WELWYN GARDEN CITY is and always was referred to as just that. It was never shortened to WELWYN. Yet there's WELWYN NORTH, and it's not, and never was, called WELWYN GARDEN CITY NORTH. In fact, Welwyn North would have been better named Digswell - just like the viaduct.

Then again, Letchworth never had a competing original village as Welwyn Garden City did in Welwyn, a couple of miles away from the line. It was always Letchworth Garden City from day one. Phew!

Sorry about that boys and girls, now back to Hornsey/Wood Green/Ally Pally, etc.

The Control Tower (as it's know in the SBI's) is going to be domolished this weekend. Apparently the panel and communications equipment has been removed and sent to York RM.
