Gents its taken a couple of days to decide wether to post this in the forum for safety and other reasons, but disregarding how the pics were obtained i think members might like to see them.
I enclose the post and link from another forum i belong to. I live reasonably close to the Tunnel and know others on the forum who know it well and will like me be apalled at what these idiots have done.

Good evening.

I really cannot condone this explore, indeed the word ‘Suicidal’ comes to mind. However, readers may be interested to see what lurks about halfway through Totley Tunnel.

Just to repeat, I don’t condone trespassing on live railway lines and going into operational tunnels is insane.

Kind regards,

Not wanting to click on the link, it is some kind of practical joke or some gory horror?

No Blackout but it could have been, Totley Tunnel is on the Sheffield Manchester line and was always very wet. When they were digging it they found a natural cavern. This group of idiots went through the Tunnel to the cavern bearing in mind its a well used line. The link came to me via Derbyshire Railways forum. The pics are worth a look if you can get the mindless idiots who took them oujt of your mind.

Ay up!

Great piccies but oooooooooooooooh, not good getting 'em. I got trapped in Ingrow tunnel (double track width but only single track laid) on the Worth Valley thinking I could scoot (those were the days!) through to get the "leaving" piccie. The engine passed me about 4 yards inside the entrance and left me completely blinded with steam and thoroughly scared. Never again!

Silly and illegal (i've seen quite a few of these sort of forums, and it's amazing how many posters don't bother to even slightly disguise themselves, must be handy for police...), but interesting to see - suppose it crosses out Totley Tunnel from possible locations for a strategic steam reserve....

Worst I've done is I've had my head out the carriage door window behind 92214 and then 70000 in Grosmont tunnel (both were filmed, it was absoloutely amazing and they will be uploaded soon). But these idiots were trespassing, jumping in and out of the paths of trains and initially had no idea what they were doing. I knew from many previous trips through Grosmont tunnel that I could safely squeeze through filming out a carriage window (If I'd have thought for a second there wasn't enough room I would have ducked back in).

I reckon the strategic steam reserve is spread out in old nuclear storage facilites, like that at Waddingham that used to hold blue danbues.

Interesting photos for sure. I visited the area about ten years ago, from the Hathersage end, with my wife's cousin who's an avid hiker in the area. I didn't know it was the second longest tunnel in the UK, nor about the natural cavern.

About these guys, though, I note one of them goes by the name of Fishbrain. 'Nuff said.

I believe, Gentlemen, they are watching our forum with interest...!

(Hallo to the chaps of the 28dayslater forum)

Yes, illegal, dangerous, and most certainly silly from our points of view. It's their choice to go and do it.

I don't condone it in any way, but from an historical viewpoint, it's incredible to see that sort of thing, particularly when married with that rather sublime photography. Fascinating to see the architecture in that sort of lighting conditions too.

When you think about it, it would have been safer abseiling down the vent....

LOL! It'd be my luck to drop through the opening just as a freight was coming through. I don't want to be a pinata, thanks.

The vent was in the cavern, away from the PW

EDIT:The ignorant sods have also given our forums a nickname too: 'choo-choo's-R-us'

Oh, and guys on the 28dl forums, thanks for calling me an idiot for having my head out in grosmont tunnel. I knew precisely what I was doing and that I was safe based on previous trips and observations - I do not plan to abseil down that shaft either, it was merely a suggestion that was less suicidal than what you did.

I'm not sure that we should encourage "banter" between forums that is only likely to cause irritation. Leave those guys to what they do, and we'll concentrate on what we do.

Time to lock the thread?

Yes I think so. I've been watching both forum threads since yesterday. Although there's quite a bit of overlap in actual interests and there's enough immaturity to go around, if a slanging match is to be started, it will be without us.
