When I joined the Royal Navy 1943, I palled up with Robert, as we had the railway in common
we both worked in the Telegraph office before joining up, me at Doncaster, he at Ipswich, we did our training together in Scotland. he introduced me to a girl from Ipswich and were pen friends.
Towards the end of my service I was stationed in the Wireless room at the Admiralty as an Automatic morse operator, through this pen friend she said that Robert was doing the same job
only in Calcutta. One evening on the night shift I was on the teleprinter to the Calcutta station, so I asked if he knew Robert Spiers, the reply was yes thats me. Strange Yes!!!
May I ask anyone in the Ipswich area if they know of him as I am sure he would go back to his old job after demob
