To a bloke off the GN, they certainly had a funny way of speaking on the GE. ICS, diamonds on train describers, E lines, London end and Country end, Accident vans, all very odd...

Ilford Car Sheds
A topper is proper if the train's a non-stopper!

Re: Ilford Car Sheds
How about the tale that King's Cross PSB (the present one) got a call from Western Jn.(Dalston) box one evening to stop the down train of cars (Fords from Dagenham) on Cartics/flats because a door/s was/were open on a motor vehicle/s thereon.
Nothing too odd or amusing about that ; -
- Except that the initial report (from I know not whom, I think to Forest Gate or Stratford box) was rumoured to be that there was a door/s open 'on the cars', whereupon the signalmen there (& further along?) set about stopping and questioning every Class 5 train ('carrs.'/carriages/Empty Coaching Stock/ECS) that they had, while the Class 4 'cars' (probably on the way to Wrenthorpe, Wakefield) carried slowly on, unhindered, - until 'the penny finally dropped' and the 'stop & exam.' message had to go forward to KX box to get ahead of the train so that it could be stopped around Finsbury Park.
