I've heard from a friend that 6229's streamlined casing has a rather large dent just forward of the cab area that's only visible from the footbridge. Does anyone know what happened?

Mallard took a swipe at it when no one was looking for trying to upstage her.

Just found a picture of her with the dent quite clear:

Mallard was at Locomotion.
As far as I'm aware, 6229 has never set foot anywhere near Shildon.

The casing is kept up by a framing that goes over the boiler, with some framing at the front. It doesn't go right along the boiler, rather along the firebox sides mainly. There is still some space between the firebox sides and the casing.
I've seen a photo of them being built at Crewe Works. Anyone want the link?
While fixing the dent, why not overhaul it so it can be back in steam?

In the mid 1960s (when I were but a lad) I went to Barry. I actually walked along the top of West Country 34105 SWANAGE and it was surprising how thin and flimsy the casing was.
No doubt an A4 would be the same as the Duchess and West Country

It's plenty sturdy, but it is not like the A4, where more of the casing goes right around the boiler, as opposed to being kept up by a "exoskeleton". 60008 had a few panels of the casing left open, and you could see the boiler underneath.

Ay up!
Sooner the better - be nice to see one in 12 inch to the foot scale!
