Luton?

Could be, 60041, but I'm not sure about that open area (bomb site?) at the top of the photo. Midland Road and Station Road look to have about the right divergence of angles, though I think Station Rd. has probably been realigned in more recent times. Luton is well within hq1's bailiwick, though.

Luton it is, with Luton Yard LNE box at the bottom of the picture. The white building in Station Road to the right of the underbridge is a 'tin tabernacle', it was called 'Mission to railwaymen', if I recall rightly. The yard opposite is a stone masons premises and that's the Bute St warehouse with all those vans outside. Looks almost like a main line, rather than a branch, and the LNER had no fewer than three signalboxes in Luton - West, Yard and East. Note also the Midland turntable, which must have been taken out of use when the LMS so brutally rebuilt their station in the mid 1930s. Part of the pit survived for much longer.

Just don't mention busways...

I'm not really familiar with the area, but a clue for me was the Reginald Hat factory; 50 years ago my granny always used to wear Reginald hats and I remember the label said "Luton"
