Britannia
Evening all
70000 Britannia unfortunately disgraced itself today at Warminster where it was declared a failure. The original reports were that it had run out of water and the local fire brigade were requested to attend. It, however, appeared that there was a fault with the injectors and the loco was declared a failure by the traincrew. Needless to say, there was a bit of disruption which resulted in the unusual appearance of a FGW 158 3-car unit at Yeovil Junction attached to a SWT 159 which was forming the 15.30 Cardiff - Portsmouth service diverted from Westbury via Castle Cary, Yeovil Pen Mill, Yeovil Jnc, Gillingham to Salisbury where the SWT 159 was detached.

Re: Britannia
What a shame. Been a rather rough year for steam.

A right shame. Fingers crossed it all gets sorted for 70000 soon.Deltic18 wrote:Evening all

Re: Britannia
Was there anything else due in at the 'Cross on Sunday? There were quite a few photographers on the end of the platforms when we passed through around 10am. Unfortunately I couldn't wait around.

Oh well, I suppose utter sacrilege is better than having no working steam at all.
At least the train was spared a 47 on the other end...

Re: Britannia
The latest edition of Railway Herald suggests that the rapid drop in water levels was due to the ash pan sprinkler being left on, and that drained a lot of water from the tender.Deltic18 wrote:Evening all

Re: Britannia
Personally, I reckon that that only livery a Brit looks right in is clean, lined BR green.
But then there's no accounting for taste...

Now you're talking...60103 in apple green and German blinkers...takes me back to the ?????, it will never happen. Mind you we did have a purple deltic !!!!!!!, but I agree a black Brit no NO.

Re: Britannia
Are you really sure? I understood that when brand new it did run for a short time in black before naming, hence its current guise. I have to say that I am not over keen but it makes a change and I don't think that it will be for long, as per "Scotsman".''Really cool man if it was painted in all over BLACK!''
Regardless of the fact that it NEVER ran in all over black????????
I also think that they may have a problem with the wheels (tyres), it would be better running in any livery rather than sidelined.
