Bowes Railway Photo Charter - 23rd July 2011

The Bowes Railway on the 23rd July 2011 during their Photo Charter which featured:
- 0-4-0 Saddle Tank No.22
- 0-4-0 Saddle Tank 'William Steuart Trimble'
- 0-4-0 'Coffeepot'
Was a great day, thanks to all the chaps and chapettes that made it happen.

Your usual very impressive filming. As a past user of Sony video for filming trains in the 1980s and 90s and now somewhat out of touch, I am looking for a good digital camcorder at the moment with manual exposure control and variable speed zoom, and I wondered which camera you use, if this is not asking for a trade secret.

My daughter is a video editor and always maintains that Canon is her first choice every time. She says that the Sony gear is good, but there are often compatability problems with editing software.

Thanks. I will bear that in mind. Sounds like Sony has to be different even in digital...

We have a couple of JVC HD-10's. We've used them for about the three years now and they've been ok.
As part of my Uni degree we had to complete a video module (Of which I got a 1st) and the Uni supplied us with Sony Camcorders... Needless to say we had an awful amount of trouble getting the footage to work in Adobe Premiere.
HD Camcorders have come down in price a tremendous amount over the years... I'm sure you'll be able to pick something decent up during the Summer Sales.

Thanks very much Simon, your tips are very much appreciated. I've been looking at Panasonic and Canon. I must say the G2 HD10 delivers superb picture quality and sound but I just know I wouldn't get on with just a screen and no viewfinder.
