76079 and 45407

Post by 51L »

Hi All
On Tuesday 29th August 76079 came light engine to Grosmont from Machynlleth stopping via crewe and as i live in stockton-on-tees i decided to follow it from Eaglescliffe to Nunthorpe to Battersby.
Then Next day Wednesday 30th August Black 5 45407 left Grosmont on its way to Carnforth so i went to Yarm to catch it going over the viaduct, 2 goods trains went over plus a service train to Middlesborough and all 3 went slowl over the viaduct come 12.30pm 45407 came fast over the viaduct, and i nearly missed it but it was a crap shot and im never going there again to see steam!

Well, I was on the engine so yeah I saw it lol.

Basically there wasn't an opportunity to turn the engine on Pickering Turntable before the move, which is why it was turned on the Triangle..

I wish we had half as many steam movements as in the UK.

Texas (a state that is about the size of Britain) has three steam operations - one of which is closing later this year. Movements out on the network are very rare - eg. the UP's Challenger trip to Houston for the SuperBowl.
