'The Flying Scotsman' .. from a projectionists memory's, young lad (fireman on LNER) meets young lass, go'es to work, on the footplate driver moans about his daughter been out all night, fireman pulls girlfiends photo out---the driver is furriuos its his daughter, you know the rest (some of us have been there!) fight starts on footplate, daughter comes to stop fight (walking along side of coach?) train splits in two ,, etc,etc ,,worth watching even to critisize !. Any way when Gresley saw the film at opening night he was furrious at the bad press about the LNER not having brakes on their stock. So from that day he insisted that no more film's would be made on the LNER .

ps Train of Events is the begining of the shift , both crew and passenger , to cut a long story short it all ends up in a train crash , needles to say theve all gone to heaven.

Many thanks guys for the info on 'The Flying Scotsman' dvd...Also of interest is a film called 'A cry from the streets' starring............wait for it........... Max Bygraves............Not a railway film, but the opening credits have great views of I think,of Kings Cross goods yard?...............and later on Kings Cross; featuring carriage cleaners!.......There are also great shots of the Angel and the Lyons tea house that stood on the corner of Pentonville road. I am pretty sure that the Caledonian road is also featured! All in all a great view of 1950s Islington.
Cheers

Still think you cannot beat The Ladykillers (1956 ish) with Alec Guiness. I think it was about the last of the classic Ealing Comedies

) theres plenty of steam action mainly of (actor) Jack Warner and his fireman on the footplate of [his] re-built Royal Scot no.46126 'Royal Army Service Corps' and inside Willesden shed plus some of a Jinty shunting the local goods yard and also a brief shot of a Super D. The 'out takes' of this film (found on steam on 35mm in the 1930s 40s 50s & 60s dvd) of expresses leaving Euston and climbing Camden bank shot in 1948 or 49 in black & white are very interesting to watch as well.
Would that be the John Huntley "Steam on 35mm" series? Outtakes from "The Ladykillers" are also there. I'm talking videos - not sure what transferred to dvd.

I can recall two films where the main character is a steam driver. One was GWR, where the driver's flat overlooked Ranelagh Bridge servicing point. Can't remember the title. The other is "La Bete Humaine", which has rail scenes throughout, though the highlight is the long opening sequence where a Pacific leaves the roundhouse for the Gare du Nord (?) and takes its train through the Paris suburbs. I recently bought the video (well, not that recently) but was horrified to find the opening was completely cut! I'd love to have it complete.

G'Day Gents
If my memory serves me correctly, the 1929 movie 'The Flying Scotsman' was partly made between Hertford North and Langley, close to London, rural location and able to take the weight of an Pacific, and not a lot of traffic!!!
