Snow
I know its not quite Snowdrift at Bleath Gill, but I have attached a few pictures taken at our place (one out of the bedroom window) this morning. This is the ECML, the up line has disappeared completely and all traffic is using the down line at reduced speed. The average depth is about 18" to 2' but on the railway it is a little less because yesterdays traffic kept it clear.

Re: Snow
Temperatures around here have struggled to get much above freezing for the last three or four days.
This morning I woke up to find several inches of the white stuff (on top of the previous half inch) so I think that I'll keep to the indoor jobs for now.
But, I'll have to brave the outdoors on Monday. Methinks the workshop sawdust burner is going to be working overtime next week!
The forecast is for about another week of the current cold snap. Given the location of the jetstream and a blocking high I expect the forecasters are not wrong.
IIRC this is the earliest for lying snow for 17 years.
Now, where did I put the thermals.....

Re: Snow
Its not just the snow.
Minus 12 in York last night, Minus 14 at Dishforth.
As for my plough.
It still needs some work to be done only trouble is the A64 and A169 between me and it.
Should be ready in the Summer next year.

Re: Snow
geofrancis, The Navy Club went when they pulled Allma Parade and Railway Terrace and surrounding streets down to make way for M*rris*ns supermarket, now we are threatend with a vertical pier (?) and around £60 million on a new sea wall. Also work is to start on Redcar central station spring 2011 .

Re: Snow
I don't know if they have been doing it this time, but when we had the snow last january, Cross Country were stopping some trains at Chathill to provide a replacement for the Northern Rail service that had been suspended. One of the staff at Alnmouth Station lives at Chathill and was using the Cross Country service to get to work.52A wrote:It would appear that Dunbar and Chathill have had their services reinstated after over a week of waiting. Re: Snow
Midlesborough-Whitby services have been suspended durring the snow, for a week or so , now was'nt the sole idea for keeping the branch open for times like these, to get supplies to outlying villages and commuters on the move ? And why do they have a 142 flogging its b*ll*cks of up the ECML on the 7-30 Saltburn-Newcastle when 156's trundle up and down the Esk valley?

Re: Snow
At last! I woke up today to find that the thaw has set in.
Sunny, "mild" if dampish air, and a lot of the snow has disappeared. Apart from one or two of the large piles created during clearance ops.......
I wonder if the plumbers will be busy.... ......

The above shot is from earlier in 2010, but the point still applies.
(luckily that gantry no longer exists, as is got demolished by a HGV in the summer)

Apologies, try this link instead:

or try my next post in this thread......I've put the link there, as well...
