Calamity Junction
For those interested, several things not quite right here - just don't ask me to list them all!

Re: Calamity Junction
Where did that come from? Did you find it somewhere or did you devise it yourself?
Re: Calamity Junction
At a guess it would be part of a test paper for an S+T exam.

I'm nowhere near clever enough for that! Suspect it was drawn by some whimsical signalling engineer...Autocar Publicity wrote:Where did that come from? Did you find it somewhere or did you devise it yourself?
Mr P - feel free to list what you have found. The RAIB got nine faults too, so I believe

Re: Calamity Junction
1&2 ok
3 ok
4 locked by the block? I don't think so.
5 should be locked by the block
6 ok
7 ok
8 ok
9 as i said earlier...yikes..
10 ok
11 the points don't lie correctly..
12 ok
13 ok
14 ok
15 looks to be drawn as a fixed distant
16 stop arm below distant
17 ok
18 Rule 55 diamond on a distant.
At the London end, up and down mains transposed.
1,2 and 4 signals do not protect the crossover
Track circuit 1 is not a lot of use if it track locks 8 lever. If 1,2 and 4 were correctly placed it would lock the crossover if a train stopped there.
I make that 10 though to be fair 4/5 should count as one.. I'll have another look in a bit as i'm sure there are more.

Re: Calamity Junction
Ok after much thought, how about this?..
11 trap on the up goods. Maybe this should be worked by the spare lever to maintain run back protection from the up goods? The facing end of 11 will be locked in the position shown as flank protection for 12 when a movement is made from the down goods to down main. If 11 trap was worked by lever 6 the up main can be protected from a run back but when worked as a pair this protection is removed..<g>
An example of this can be found at Sleaford South Junction. There is a trap in the down avoiding line worked as a slotted joint, basically a sprung trap point that can be pulled over to allow facing movements over it..

Hence my comment of 'yikes'...Micky wrote:I know in regards to CALAMITY JUNCTION there WOULDN'T be a YELLOW disc signal where that one is situated it would be a RED disc signal but i just thought it worth mentioning.

Re: Calamity Junction
It was certainly rare to have a yellow disc facing oncoming traffic travelling normal direction on a running line (that Hitchin South 17, which I remeber seeing was also still a GN 'revolver' 'disc' signal).
