A very rare picture of Sir Nigels experimental work

Although i have looked long and hard at this pic the boiler just looks like a conventional boiler to me i cant see any signs of it being a water tube boiler. 1930s Geordie humor? enough said.

I think the water tube boiler was used at Darlington works for quite a number of years after it was removed from 10000.

Yes it was and not scrapped till quite late.

Yes there's a photograph on the Co. Durham library website. I did enquire about using it but it would have cost. Not a huge amount but the kind of amount I couldn't pay on a regular basis for photos for the website.

One of the railway magazines in the 70s carried an extensive article about the Hush Hush boiler which was used for many years in the Stooperdale shop, a photo of the boiler in use appears here.
