Can anyone tell me where 61972 was shedded on 28th August 1959.
I have a pic of her coming through Spink Hill Station [closed] on the L.D.& E.C on a Colwick - Mottram class "D" goods
According to my 1959 Ian Allen she was a March engine.
Also which build date was she, I assume the 1934/6 batch.

It was at Colwick in 1961 according to my I.A.shed directory for that year.

K3 61972 was built at Darlington and outshopped in October 1936. The loco was a March resident for most of the 1950's (20.09.1953 to 08.01.1961).
How do you know the train depicted in your photo is a Colwick - Mottram ? I only ask because No.768 11.37 Whitemoor - Mottram was a 31B K3 turn as far as Rotherwood at the end of the 1950's and the picture could have been the Whitemoor train diverted to run via the LDEC.
Which may, coincidentally, partly answer the question posed in a previous thread entitled "North Country Continental diversion" posted: Mon Jan 18, 2010 5:41 pm !

Wouldn't argue with that Andy but 11.37 from Whitemoor would have to get its foot down to be at Spink Hill by about mid day.

Ah, but I didn't know what time the picture was taken !
Probably Colwick stole it then.... If it ended up on Darnall after the working, no doubt it found employment on one of the Saturday Yarmouth or similar services the next morning

We would pinch anything on a Saturday.
And a Wednesday, we used to run Cleethorpes excursionson Wed's [Sheffield half day} I think it was about 5/- return adult and it grew to about 5 train loads eventually.
Leave about 1 pm the first and all be back in Sheff' to catch the last tram home.
J11s on occasions were used, try that with 10 behind and a leaking tender tank.
The tank had a long slit along the side where it had been sideswiped by the faming on another locos front end
It was bodged up with wooden plugs but still leaked but it was the last available engine on shed and we hadnt time to get the J11 from Tinsley where it was being used as a banker, so off it went.
Water at Worksop, Gainsbrough and Kirton Lindsey and just made it.
Did a bit more plugging at Cleethorpes and made it back with the Gainsbrough stop.
