Don't know of any others left operational. There used to be one at Halesworth but I never saw it used, anyone know of any other swing bridges like this? In this case, SWT staff obtain the release to the ground frame (on the right) and push it across, thus connecting the up island platform with the station entrance. Most unusual in this day and age for TOC staff to venture off the platform, as well. The whole bridge section has just been renewed and the station is used in the morning peak by large numbers of students attending the nearby college.

I suppose Staff would be discouraged to cross the lines because of the proximity of the conductor rail and this is the safest solution.

The nearest similar example I could think of would be the Malton sliding bridge, removed long ago.

What about the proper one at Northallerton built during the war?.

There was a similar pivotted bridge at Eastleigh. I remember walking across it to gain access to the up platform. I think it went in the late seventies. In any case the track (and platform face) that it bridged is long gone. The up platform used to be an island.
