Well i've come away very impressed by the efforts by the guys at the Tanfield Railway, had a smashing day out on Sunday. Ok the weather wasn't at it's best but was still an enjoyable day.

I also found the timetable great with the 20 minute slot at Andrew's house which allowed you to get a shot down near Tanfield then drive up towards the other end... Was great!

I've uploaded a couple of my shots with the rest on the Part 1 DVD.

Excellent pictures there

Great pictures and excellent sound-is the Tanfield the one with the old mine shaft,and the sharp incline up to one end of the line?Think i've seen it on telly.

I think "Ferrybridge Flyer" is thinking of Staffordshire's Foxfield Railway.

Does sound like Foxfield, although I've only seen magazine photo shoots of the place.

My copy arrived yesterday and I haven't had a chance to read more than the first couple of pages. There's also a DVD which I haven't looked at yet. The NERA Journal's review said it was worth it just for the DVD...

Totally off topic but the publisher's promotional postcard that came with the book is a nice scene of Dunstanburgh Castle taken from the shoreline that shows the Whin Sill very well. Earlier in the day I had been a guest lecturer for Marcy's class - giving them a basic overview of geology. One of my examples of an igneous rock was taken from the Whin Sill. Yes you could see where it came from on the postcard! I hasten to add that I took it from the wave cut platform (shoreline) - and not the castle or cliff!

I think you might be thinking of the Bowes Railway the incline is rope worked.
Same area and has featured on TV a couple of times.

Foxfield is Staffordshire near Alton Towers.

Just been looking at the Bowes website: It looks fairly healthy. Usually you only hear of problems there: I think it was (still is?) council owned and forever having funding problems.
