Did anyone notice Mr P claim the credit for "saving" the S&C single-handedly by appealing directly to Mrs Thatcher?

Yes he did rather overstate the case. Came across as a sort of 'good egg', and he might make a decent Lord Peter Wimsey if they ever re-shoot any of Dorothy L. Sayers's novels. I doubt if Mrs T found anyone except perhaps Dennis appealing, nor would the Iron Lady have been unduly influenced by anything Mr Portillo might have said - he was a 'wet'.

When describing Cabinet ministers, I think I would take after John Major and call them "B'stards"...

I was just glad to see trains on telly every night-this was a real rarity-let's not complain too loudly!!Looking forward to the next series.Good to know liquorice IS still being grown somewhere in Pontefract!!Must be better than the stuff they import.
