Sorry wrong area. Got distracted by Dr Who. Should have been in the gallery. Next time, use a Tardis.

Lovely! I wonder if the bloke driving that van on the bridge had stopped to see Bittern go through, or thought a sudden fog had sprung up.

why are the buffers like that?
I've seen it on 'Tornado' and some shot of 'Flying Scotsman' and 'Green Arrow' but have never known the reasoning for this.
Is it safer? as they look alot like n cap safety rating symbol :P

Quartering is just a fashion thing, as here.

Manna, trains don't carry headcodes any more, just headlights, it would have looked better in the middle though.

Oops , sorry, should have called them frontal lights as some half wit in the brave new railway has decreed.

A halfwit indeed. I suppose he even had to be careful even of offending anyone by saying 'full frontal'.

Not intending to dispute the previous posts, but 'Frontal lights' in these times, includes all lights on the front, bearing in mind that some trains (such as modern multiple units, Class 91s, etc.), in addition to the required 'Headlight', also display one or two white Marker lights.
