Pendon Museum - near Didcot

Post by hq1hitchin »

Not sure if this is in the right section, but I've just returned from my third visit in forty years to Pendon. OK, so it's predominantly GWR but the quality of the dioramas is absolutely superb, as are the rolling stock and locomotives. Where else can one see a passenger on a train explaining to the travelling ticket inspector (complete with button hole) that he can't find his ticket or see a model house where the tenant is asleep upstairs - all in 4 mm scale?

A topper is proper if the train's a non-stopper!

Yes, I called a few years ago on my way back from Devon (taking a bit of a diversion) and was impressed. I'd imagine most of us have seen smaller layouts with a few square feet of super-detail on, but the combination of quality and quantity at Pendon is breathtaking. I thought I was a bit particular and in danger of obsessing over detail, but Roye England and some of his confederates make me look positively casual...

I'd recommend it to anyone able to go.
