Recent travels

Post by redtoon1892 »

On my recent travels around the Med I managed to get to a few railway stations and photgraph a few oddities. A couple of long redundant water cranes and two redundant shunters in Civitavecchia Italy and an equally ancient water crane in Olbia Sardinia.
The two shunters were made redundant by the redevelopement of their goods yard for other uses and have not turned a wheel for some time.
In Sardinia it would appear the railway system is in terminal decline.I also managed the stations in Naples, Monaco, Ville Franche & Ajeccio in Corsica.
I didnt manage due to time restrictions Rome, Toulon, Cannes, Nice, Palermo Sicily, Paloma Spain,& La Sepzia & Florence in Italy, never mind always next time.

Thanks for sharing them with us, redtoon. Any grief anywhere whilst going around the railway taking photographs?
A topper is proper if the train's a non-stopper!

Not really. kept a very low profile in Naples, most photographs were from behind pillars out of the sight lines of CCTV as I have had run ins with the Carabinienri in Rome last year.
In Civitavecchia the local police were watching me but got distracted by someone being removed from a train, I was told he had no papers, prob an illegal immigrant.
The plod watched me in Monaco but wasnt very interested.
There appears to be a major upgrading in Corsica about to happen. one of the new trains was on display in the yard.
Have to say they have some super trains in Italy, a huge variation, must be a nightmare for the maintenance staff.
Just thought on there, I came across a model shop in Palma De Mallorca with a very good range of HO Spanish, German & Italian locos, rolling stock etc.
First one I have came across on the Continent apart from Germany.
