Severn Valley has a steam gala this weekend, and for what is probably my last visit to a heritage railway I will be going there this Friday (25th September).

See this link for details. Weather is forecast to be beautiful and sunny. Friday should be less crowded than the Saturday or Sunday. N2 on the Gresley set? Intensive timetable. Double-headers. Can't resist.

Not going, but I was on the SVR Monday/Tuesday of last week. The Gresley set was in use behind Manor 7812 and didn't look out of place at all.

Great weather yesterday and a lot more people than I thought for a Friday.
4936 "Kinlet Hall" failed with a leaking gasket on the safety valves, but everything else was in top form. All photos by me, except photo 6, which is by Keith Brown (I totally muffed my shot) and photo 20, also by Keith Brown (He is much better than me at this).
Also, photo 10 is the corridor of the GNR, 1st, 3rd composite, which is in beautiful condition.
As for photo 1: hands up all those who fondly remember steam heating (it was a bit chilly first thing in the morning).

The N2 looks good in GNR green. How was she performing?

I'm a member of the Gresley Soc, but I only hear progress of her restoration 6+ months after it happens, due to the time it takes for the journal to be published and to reach me.

Performing well on the Gresley rake (8 carriages), but needed the sanders on a couple of occasions. The time I rode the set, N2 was running bunker first out of Bridgenorth and needed to lay down some sand to get out cleanly. However, sounded crisp and very good.

Thank you Malcolm for the photo's, day trips from Aussie to England, are, I think a bit over the top?? I did notice that the SVR have totally mucked up the GN signal in photo No6? lol Wonderful to see the inside of a GN, LNER corridor coach, again thank you, manna

The N2 seamed to go well, one fireman complained about the pressure. Hope you enjoyed the weekend. Apart from some coal issues during during the dead of night it went very well.

43106 on the teak coaches looked superb as well, saldy when i had it we had a mix of CC and Maroon stock, but she steams well, even if the noise of the injectors is deafening.

Slightly off topic but why do people use flash photography at locos at night when they are in service. You dont get a good shot and blind the crew as happened to us this morning about 01.40 at between Arley and Bewdley.

Looks like 43106 split the points yesterday.

LUL don't like people using flash at all, for that very reason, assuming you are even allowed to use cameras on the underground now. Anyone else recall reading about the lighting used at Carnforth on nights when they were making 'Brief Encounter'? Seems it took a lot of enginemen by surprise and the brake went in, plus faces leaning out of the cabs to see what was happening. They had to put an item in the Late Notice Cases to tell men what was going on and to run normally. Very atmospheric shots in the film, even if the storyline is a bit dated by todays standards.

from what has been said the pig has got damage to brake rigging and underside of the tender. The coaches were removed yesterday and RIAB said the loco could be removed at 3pm yesterday. I am sure RIAB will in due course help to explain what happened.

There are suggestions that plain track may be laid at the south end initially as the point was damaged as well.

Hopefully the Pig will be up and running again fairly swiftly
