SUPPORT STEPHENSON 150 FESTIVAL

HELP spread the word- that's the message from the organisers of this summer's
stephenson 150 festival.
A full programme of events which began with the first in a series of rail-themed lectures
last wednesday to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the death of railway engineer
robert stephenson will continue untill october.
stephenson is best remembered in berwick-upon-tweed for designing and overseeing
the construction of the royal border bridge, complete with is iconic 28 arches.
one of the main attractions of the festival will be a weekend of events on saturday june 27
and sunday june 28th there will be stephenson 150 exhibition at the guildhall berwick.
featuring a host of treasures from berwick archives and museum.
there will also be a stand by the institute of civil engineers and the chance to drive a deltic
engine on the main line thanks to a simulator which will be set up in front of the guildhall
steps. coinciding with the exhibition on saturday june 27 a steam train A4 60009
union of south africa will travel from peterborough and york to Edinburgh stoppng off
at berwick to allow rail enthusiasts to attend the other events.
Also on june 27th there will be the chance to visit norham station museum.
