One for Colombo

Erm would the username happen to stem from this?





I was going through a box of paperwork and found the front page of the Yorkshire Evening Press (not familiar with the title so wonder if it has been absorbed by the Yorkshire Evening News?) from Monday August 4th 1958 when the 7.32 from Sunderland ran over the stop block on platform 12 at York injuring 11.
Not a good day for the north eastern region: below the article from York is a small non illustrated piece concerning a six coach diesel train sliding into the stops at Whitby causing about 50 people to be taken to hospital.
I can scan and OCR or post the text if anyone is interested

I would certainly be interested in the news articles about the two incidents if you don't mind .

I have read small bits about 'Columbo' and her overrunning the stops but have never heard about the incident at Whitby Town.

It was only Colombo going for a paper at WH Smiths. Note the "Hats" in first pic trying to work out what went wrong.

60036 (50B) August 4th,1958 August Bank Holiday Monday. The train was reportedly a relief /excursion and another report was that it had a Blaydon (Tyneside) crew who thought (sic)that they were routed into a through platform .The Pacific needed to be considerably fettled up to get it to Doncaster for repair as there was damage to the driving wheels. The kiosk was, fortunately, unstaffed at the time.
