Hi,
Can anyone give me a potted history of the Sheepbridge Branch running north west from Chesterfield. What was its main traffic how long was it and were passengers ever carried.
I have tried to trace it on maps but they are not very clear on the subject.
Thanks in anticipation.

I have some old maps (in GIF format) of NE Derbyshire which show the old Sheepbridge, Monkwood & Nesfield Branches. They were in existence by the time the oldest map I have was published in 1899. The latter two branches served the respective collieries, whilst the Sheepbridge line ran into the works of the same name, so I doubt if they ever carried passengers. I think I've also got some scans of a model rail mag which in which one of it's articles was on the steelworks.
