North Bay Railway Scarborough

Post by TrevorJ »

When originally constructed there was a turning circle at Scalby Mills station, part of which was enclosed in a tunnel. Alterations in (I believe) the 1970s, saw the line shortened and the station rebuilt. It now has a turntable on the headshunt but I recall that before the turntable was installed, locos were turned on a triangle of track pointing at right angles to the running line. Does anyone else remember this triangle or is my memory playing tricks with me after all these years?

You are correct there was a triangle, I remember the loco wheels riding up on the rails as it used it, as it was so tight.
I also remember the tunnel.
