Was just on the current LNER website and it gives the Kings Cross -Edinburgh distance as 331 miles. What happened to the 392 3/4 miles of yore?

Perhaps they haven't included the replacement bus service...

During a number of realignment works such as Relly Mill and Newton Hall at Durham some "short miles" were put in place to obviate moving probably hundreds of mile posts. Also the Selby diversion was shorter and similar happened there. Although nowhere near losing as many miles as you mentioned, obviously an error.

I just checked the (road) distance from Edinburgh to Berwick: 56 miles!

Can't help but think they might have forgotten about Scotland...

Perhaps the LNER publicity department are anticipating Scotland will vote YES to an independent Scotland and will terminate the ECML at Berwick?.

Yes if Wee Crankie gets her way, border checks at Berwick and a friend of mine will no longer be driving to Inverness and Aberdeen!
