I sometimes wonder what effect computer modelling would have had on steam loco design. Just think, no more endless mucking around with blastpipe configurations, easy optimisation of firebox-boiler-cylinder ratios, etc.
Was computer modelling used on Tornado and is it being used on Prince Charles?

Re: Computer modelling
I don't know about thermodynamics, but there was a lot of chassis / wheel computer modelling with Prince Charles before the official project launch. This was to make sure a Mikado was viable and would be acceptable to Network Rail.
