It's interesting what you find when you're not looking for it.

Re: Barry Scrapyard
Interesting though the site appears to be, one should be cautious about its accuracy, which may be fallacious.
The decision to withdraw a loco was taken on one particular day, and the Yeadon registers for instance generally record this. On the returns provided by the Regional PROs that are published in, for example, the RO (and on which the data on the website may well be based) withdrawals are however aggregated. Unfortunately, in the cases of the LM and Scottish region the aggregations are to one of the 13 4-weekly periods. This means that, from that data, it will not be possible to convert that data back to a particular month; for example, Period 8, 1959 was 4 weeks ending 8/8/59 - so a loco withdrawn in Period 8 could have been withdrawn in either July or August.
The database shows almost every loco as withdrawn on the last day of a month; even for the Regions still recording by month although the month will be correct the day is unlikely to be.
Curiously, almost the only loco shown as w/d before the end of the month is the only LNER-designed one, 61264; and the date for that coincides with that recorded in Yeadon. Presumably Yeadon was used as the source for LNEER locos but does not appear to have been given the credit.
There is a similar unlikely uniformity about arrival dates at Barry. It is a stretch to expect this date to have been recorded accurately anyway; BR might possibly have recorded when a loco was deposited in the exchange sidings, but not when it was moved into the yard. I salvaged some WR records of scrap loco movements and they only recorded the date of despatch from originating shed; provided they eventually got to destination no-one was further concerned.
All I am saying is that, just because it has an exact date don't take this too literally. The museum attendant's "8,000,001 years old, guv" dinosaur syndrome.
