Locoshed Index Defunct

Post by Pyewipe Junction »

I keep getting 'Error 404' when I try to access the Locoshed Index so I assume this web page no longer exists.

I had the Index tagged as a favourite, but I remember it was part of a larger personal website that also dealt with outdoor model railways and ? tanks.

What a pity. For an obsessive person like me it was a fantastic resource and a lot of effort had gone into it.

It's shame it can't find a home somewhere else (hint hint).

Do you mean this site:

http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~luigi ... coshed.htm

?

If so, it looks like entire "luigin" user area has gone. If you have any contact details we might be able to do something about it.

Looks like the site was running on FreeBSD, so any fancy underlying database could probably be implemented here at lner.info.

Yes, that's the one.

It seems as though he'd had access to all the Ian Allan (and some other) Locoshed Indexes. Very clever.

I have emailed Ian Allan Ltd to see if they know what has happened to the web site. It may be down for maintenance, the web hosting subscription may have expired, or it may have been withdrawn for legal copyright reasons. If the latter, the rights to host it may be on offer, who knows?

It is not as comprehensive as the Locoshed Index, but there is some information on: http://www.railuk.co.uk/

You get the 1948 allocations for some sheds.

I'm not really into trains, I was looking for the site for my Dad as I've accessed it before for him :)

Which is how I came across this topic.

It does look like Luigi's account has been deleted unfortunately.

Then I thought, wouldn't it be good if there was an archive somewhere. And here it is

Locoshed Web Archive

Just looking through, and they don't seem to have archived the pages for 1950, 1952, 1962 or 1971, but the others are there.

Enjoy!
