Hi All,

My name is Alfons and I'm a fan of railway posters because I think they're a beautiful way of linking railway with people and times. However, original posters are incredibly expensive and I just can afford buying copies.

I was wondering if you could recommend a good place to buy or exchange copies like this one:

Any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks,

Alfons

Hello Alfons,

You will often see copies these posters advertised on the eBay and Amazon websites. I am not sure what the quality is like though.

Did you know there are two books about LNER advertising, both with the same title:- It's Quicker By Rail.

One is by Allan Middleton and the other more recent by Beverly Cole.
I have the Middleton book and it does show some posters, but is more a history about the advertising and marketing that the LNER did and the way it evolved.

I do not know what the Beverley Cole book is like.

Alan

Alan, thank you for your suggestions. I did not know this book.

Do you know any other book/publication that features British Railway posters?

I have found a beautiful brochure about "The Coronation". Hope you like it.

Our shop at the Aln Valley Railway sells a selection of posters, mainly local (North Eastern) images but also some of the more famous ones as well. They sell for about £12.
We get them from The Newcastle Poster Company who have put a lot of effort into getting the colours to exactly match the originals. Some of the rarer ones have needed a lot of restoration before being good enough to reproduce.

This is the trade site for the NRM posters. Retail customers cannot purchase from it but it will at least give you an idea of what's available - the NRM listings run to 77 pages: http://www.stareditions.com/Photos/Subj ... way+Museum

In addition to the previously mentioned books there are also:

Railway Posters 1923-1947, Beverley Cole and Richard Durack, NRM 1992 having a section on each of the Big Four and including notes on the artists &C

And the extensive but expensive series Poster to Poster: http://railway-posters.com/

65447 thanks a lot for the information. The book by Beverley Cole and Richard Durack is interesting and affordable:

I've to plan a visit to the National Railway Museum :)
