Looks like I raked up a hornet's nest here.
In April's Hornby magazine, there's a 2 page item on Heljan's offering followed by four pages about the originals, all five of them, built by Waggon und Maschinenbau.
Four are preserved, two on the KWVR (Keighley and Worth Valley Railway) and another two on the NNR (North Norfolk Railway).

Were they built to a standard desigh? I was expecting a green DB railbus, but this seems taller.
I rode the KWVR railbus last summer - it was the first train from Oxenhope and something very special.

Its actually lower than the VB but (a lot) narrower. The side windows were, I believe, the only body components shared with the VBs.
If I ain't here, I'm in Bilston, scoffing decent chips at last!!!!

Ay up!
Just picked up a Park Royal railbus with EAMES (?) motor bogie (white metal) beneath for the princely sum of £20.
OK, the body has been "enthusiastically! glued together with glue stains on all the windows and the motor needed a bit of fettling but after about 10 mins scraping and cleaning, the X04 burst into life!
A new body kit, a decent paint job and some interior fittings and all will be well.
