Re: Clapham transport museum
Shildon, BB, a bit too far for me in a day, I'm afraid. In fact, looking around, there's not many similar museums south of the river (Thames, that is) but Swindon is quite good, never seems to be many visitors however, and nothing of the LNER as far as I recallBlink Bonny wrote:Cor!

A topper is proper if the train's a non-stopper!

Re: Clapham transport museum
I first went to Clapham museum when it was relatively new (as a museum), around 1963/64 time. The entrance then was "round the back" rather than on Clapham High St as it was later. One of the things that I recall, as well as all those items mentioned, was a mock up of the cab of 71000 Duke of Gloucester.
This mock up was actually in the process of being built at the time and I don't ever recall seeing it on subsequent visits. Does anyone else remember it (Arthur K maybe, as he seems to have taken his pics in that particular period?), or does anyone know what happened to it?

Ay up!
There is a mock-up (or was) of 71000's cab at York. Could this be the one?

Could well be; like I say, I never did see it again and must also have missed it on subsequent visits to the NRM, one in 1977 and again in 1994.Blink Bonny wrote:Ay up!

I also remember the old York museum, having been taken round there when I was secondman on a job from KX. As we had an hour or so to kill before heading back to London, my mate, John (Polly) Perkins, suggested a visit; apparently he did this quite often.
