Three Southern locos were at Tweedmouth with their rods removed in 1959. They were waiting to go back into the Queen Street museum after it was refurbished Boxhill was one of them, the others were 4-4-0s.
Hi interested in the area served by 52D. also researching colliery wagonways from same area.

I photographed most of the locos when I visited there . Can't remember the date but I will check my records. Certainly the Midland compound and Butler Henderson were there as were the GER pair.

You could mention that Micky, but York and railway museum always brings back memories of my ill fated interview for a trainee traffic managers job in 1970. The interviews were held at York, and because the subject was a hot topic at the time, one of the questions they asked me was "where would you site the new National Railway Museum and why?"

Of course, not being from their beloved county, I replied - Peterborough because it is central to a large proportion of the population and the preserved locos could run along the Nene Valley Railway (the proposals for which were in their infancy at the time).

I could tell by their faces that this was not the answer they were looking for, and was not surprised to discover later that I had failed to gain one of the places on the training course.

Mind you, I did get a free return ticket from home in order to attend the interview, so it was not all bad.
John.

Brilliant photos SNG - thank you for sharing!
If a Thompson rebuild is the answer... the question must have been daft to begin with!

Ay up!

"Cornwall" is a loco that's always eluded me and I'd live to see her! There's something about "Singles."
