I measured the depth of snow in the open at Newbridge yard yesterday.
This was after a lot of settlement of the lying snow and a slight thaw.
18 inches.

Must have been a cumulative total of about 3ft I reckon.

now from what appears to be two G5's on plough duties may be they wont shift much ?

Is that Barnard Castle?
There is also a strong possibility I might be very familiar with that particular plough.

My Father informs me that, in 1947, the LNER paid an extra 2d (that is old pence) an hour for working in fallen snow, but the snow had to be no lower than the level of the top of the rails to qualify.

Snow money was still being paid in 1990.
I remember the gang lads claiming it for work at Hunmanby and Filey.
