The Railwayman film, a true story about a man from Berwick taken prisoner by the Japanese after the fall of Singapore. A lot of local to Northumberland men were forced to work on the railway including a friend of my late fathers. I am looking forward to a screening of the film but will have to make do with the trailer for now.https://www.maltingsberwick.co.uk/events/film/1344

Yes indeed I have the book, which in turn is most moving. Brings a tear to the eye every time, the brutality, the senselessness of the torture. And the one man Eric Lomax had to focus his hatred on was his Japanesse interogator. After years of pain and medical suffering and a broken marriage Eric came to terms with his past. He was to have his own "Road to Domascus" when he discovered that his torturor, too had,had a similar experiance and was trying to make amends. Somewhat surprisingly they got together and became the best of friends.

OK there will be an amount of "cinematic liscense" with the film, but I will like to see it. Tragicaly though Eric Lomax himself passed away, just over a year ago in his early nineties.
