Cab identification query

Post by 61070 »

Attached is a photo of Grantham driver Roy Veasey. Can the loco men amongst us tell me the type of loco he's driving please? I'll be very grateful for some suggestions as to date too (earliest/latest). Roy was a driver from 1960 until the early 1990s.

It's may not be a diesel but a class 86 electric loco!? After further research I would agree class 31 diesel electric.

Thanks - very much appreciated. Roy has kindly given me a copy of his 'memoirs' and this photo will be added.

class 31, you got that, and early 70's as the paintwork on the 'wall's is still cream, after about 1975, everything except the cab ceiling was painted matt grey, the ceiling stayed white..........well yellowy white

Yes Bryan  When a 31 came out of works everything was, spot on with a 'White' ceiling, after about 12 months, that's went you noticed it getting tobacco stained, but a lot of KX loco's spent an awful time in tunnels

Is there any info on the location of the loco?

There is a Swindon 3-car Cross Country unit and what appears to be another class 31 in the background. Swindon units were not common at Grantham, and I wondered if it was either Peterborough or Nottingham?

Doesn't look like an LNER engine, so moved to Railway Chat.
