Beamish Trams and the Glasgow underground cars.

Post by Bryan »

Just found these photos.
Any idea anyone if the plans came about or what happened to the stock?

From http://beamishtransport.blogspot.co.uk/ ... lable.html ;
The stock list mentions "Glasgow Subway" in the departed vehicles section: I can advise you from my records that SIX Glasgow Subway power cars were obtained in 1977 upon their withdrawal in Glasgow, intended as a source spares for the tram fleet. The cars obtained were 6, 14, 15, 17, 21 and 30: all except 14 were broken up in Late 1981, it being the stated intention to keep this car (they were very historical in their own right) but for some reason (possibly condition) it was later broken up too although I do not have a date for this. I recall seeing a current photo of some of the cars at Beamish - possibly in "Modern Tramway". Your fleet list is a mine od information and I hope this helps.

I presume most of the bits used were electrical components
